es2425 — Organisation Release
Prepare for a stellar 2025 at the ESO Supernova!
The coming year will be packed with exciting activities, and you can already book your tickets for planetarium shows.
5 December 2024
After closure for the winter break, we will be excited to welcome you back with a vibrant lineup of activities. The programme will feature planetarium shows, concerts, astro-talks about some of the biggest cosmic mysteries, and more!
The ESO Supernova will be closed over the festive period from Monday 23 December 2024 and reopens on Saturday 4 January 2025. Please be aware that our staff will not be able to handle emails and phone calls from 17:00 on Sunday 22 December 2024 until 09:00 on Friday 3 January 2025.
Bookings for planetarium shows until the end of June 2025 are now open online. Looking for suggestions? The popular children’s shows Little Major Tom and Captain Snoop’s Space Trip are still featured in our programme and scheduled regularly at the weekend. Dynamic Earth or Birth of Planet Earth will be the right choice to discover the secrets of our home planet, while Unseen Universe or 5000 Eyes: Mapping the Universe with DESI will take you to the frontier of astronomical discoveries. But there are plenty more shows awaiting you, so explore them all on our programme online.
At least once per month at the weekend, an English language planetarium show is scheduled. For German shows, a limited number of headsets are available at the main reception to hear the English translation of the film.
To improve the experience for visitors with hearing impairments, planetarium shows with subtitles feature monthly in the programme. A number of headsets which can be connected to a cochlear implant are also available at the main reception.
The Kosmisches Kino series will also continue throughout 2025, with professional astronomers of the Excellence Cluster ORIGINS visiting us under the dome of the planetarium to take you on a discovery journey across the wonders of the cosmos. Further exciting events, like concerts and new planetarium shows will be added to the programme throughout the year.
Finally, note that for operational reasons, the ESO Supernova will be closed on the last full weekend of each month during 2025. To compensate for these closures, whenever we have an evening event, we will have longer opening hours, without any closure at 17:00. Even if you are not attending the event, you are very welcome to stay and explore our exhibition. Where possible, we will also schedule some extra planetarium shows on these evenings.
