Redshift

'Redshift' is a key concept for astronomers. Light travels as a wave with a specific wavelength. Red light has a longer wavelength, and blue light has a shorter wavelength. As two objects (a light source and a receiver) move away from each other, the wavelength of the light from the light source is stretched, so the light is seen as 'shifted' towards the red part of the spectrum.
