The habitable zone (artist's impression)

This graphic visualises the "habitable zone" within our Solar System. This is a region of space which has conditions that could foster potential life. Of course, it is very difficult to know exactly what these conditions might be. For example, liquid water is generally assumed to be essential. The sweet spot within our Solar System is highlighted here by a green disk. You can see that Earth, unsurprisingly fall with the zone, whilst our neighbour Mars lingers on its edge.
