Earth over the Moon's horizon

This image of the Earth was taken during Apollo 8, which was the second manned spaceflight mission in the Apollo space programme. Apollo 8 was launched on 21 December 1968, becoming the first manned spacecraft to leave Earth orbit, reach the Moon, orbit it and return safely to Earth.
