The Overview Effect – How Space Exploration transforms our view of Earth.
Special public talk on Thursday, 6 March 2025
7 February 2025
Fly to the Earth orbit in space and find out what makes this experience so special for astronauts!
Space exploration has always been a dream of mankind. More than 50 years ago, the first astronauts landed on the moon. During this so-called “Apollo era” and other early space missions, astronauts saw the Earth in its entirety from space for the first time. This experience not only changed the astronauts' perspective, but also the way they talked about the Earth as a fragile, pale blue dot in space. This is the essence of the Overview Effect.
Join Hagen Wagner (ESO Supernova) and look down on our home planet like an astronaut yourself! Breathtaking images from astronomy and space travel await you, accompanied by recorded testimonials from real astronauts. The talk aims to address what the transformative potential of the Overview Effect is and why space exploration can also be a rediscovery of ourselves.
This talk, combined with planetarium fulldome visuals, starts at 19:00 on Thursday 6 March and is held in German only. Tickets cost 6,50 Euro and can be booked online now.
