Gamma-ray burst simulation

This artists's impression shows a gamma-ray burst — an energetic blast of gamma-rays. Long gamma-ray bursts, lasting from over a second to several minutes, probably result from the catastrophic collapse of extremely massive, rapidly rotating stars.
