Curvature of space

Astronomers can test the potential curvature of three-dimensional space using the cosmic microwave background. It can either be open (saddle-like), flat or closed (sphere-like). All tests, including detailed observations of the cosmic microwave background, indicate that the overall curvature of our Universe is either very small or non-existent.
