Chandra

NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory was launched in 1999 and is still in use today. It is designed to detect X-ray emissions from very hot regions of the Universe, such as exploded stars, clusters of galaxies and the matter around black holes. X-rays are absorbed by Earth’s atmosphere, so using satellites like Chandra is the only way to study them.
