Blood moon

When a total lunar eclipse gives the eclipsed full moon a reddish tinge, it is sometimes called a blood moon. In the past, blood moons were a prophecy for the end of time, but we know know that the red colour is caused by the reflected sunlight being scattered through the Earth's atmosphere.
