Pyramids

The first Egyptian pyramids were built more than 4000 years ago. Most of them were built as tombs for pharaohs, and the central burial chamber points towards the centre of the sky, the point around which all the stars revolve. The Egyptians believed that the centre of the sky was the gateway to heaven.
