ESO — Reaching New Heights in Astronomy
ESO Supernova Public Newsletter
6 September 2024

Dear Visitors and Supporters,

The nights are already getting longer and, now that we’re into September, the weather will probably also start to get colder. A great reason to plan a visit to ESO Supernova! And there are still tickets available for the various special events in September.

On Thursday 12 September, the next Kosmisches Kino takes place. This one is all about what we can learn from the dark and almost empty regions of the Universe.

On the following Thursday, 19 September, you can learn how the First Nations people read the stars and what we can learn from their observations.

And, if you would like some musical entertainment in September, there are still tickets left for Saroos, who will play in the planetarium on Saturday 21 September.

To ensure that you also won't get bored in October, we have planned an exciting programme of special events again this month. To kick off October, we are delighted that the entire Garching science campus is once again hosting an open day. ESO will of course be taking part and we encourage you to mark the date in your calendar now. For more information about the event, see our press release.

From October 4th you will have the opportunity to watch the planetarium show “Birth of Planet Earth”. This show was very popular when we included it in our program for a few months in 2022 and we are therefore very pleased to be able to offer it again.

On October 10th, the Kosmisches Kino series will continue. Eva Sextl from LMU will explain how modern telescopes help us to uncover the secrets of distant galaxies.

And we are very pleased to welcome the Swiss band NOVA back to the planetarium on Saturday evening, October 26th.

It is a great choice for you and we look forward to welcoming you again in the ESO Supernova.

Many thanks for your continued support and interest!

Tania Johnston, Head of ESO Supernova
