ESO — Reaching New Heights in Astronomy
ESO Education Newsletter
11 May 2022

Dear educators and others interested in the educational programme of ESO Supernova!

There is a lot of news to report in this newsletter:

Since February 2022 the cooperation between the European Southern Observatory (ESO) in Garching and the Forscherstation, Klaus-Tschira Centre of Excellence for Early Science Education based in Heidelberg, was officially launched. The aim is to offer training in early science education for educational specialists and teachers from preschool, kindergarten and primary schools at ESO Supernova in Garching. Already now, an astronomy training course for educators is being conducted by the Forscherstation at ESO Supernova. Further sessions on various scientific topics are already being planned. We will also set up a library for educational resources for preschool, kindergarten and primary schools at ESO Supernova. From autumn 2022, educational institutions will be able to borrow educational kits and other materials for implementing learning environments for early science education free of charge and will be able to receive expert advice.

The ESO Supernova planetarium program id finalized till end of July can be viewed on our website and booked free of charge by teachers & educators for kindergarten and school groups via a form on our website for educators. If you have found a planetarium show with enough free seats on your desired date, please fill out the form accordingly. If there is no show on your desired date, we can usually schedule a show at 10:30 am or 3:30 pm. To find out how to request such a show or a guided tour of the exhibition for kindergarten or school groups, please visit our website for educators.

We also continue to offer interesting topics virtually: Anyone interested in learning more about the world's largest telescopes of ESO in Chile is invited to join us for the May 20 Science in School webinar. The webinar starts at 10 am (CEST), lasts one hour and is in English.

Thank you for your continued interest and we look forward to seeing you soon at ESO Supernova.

Wolfgang Vieser (Education Coordinator)
