Dear readers,
We hope that 2017 has started well for you. It certainly has for the ESO Supernova. Things are progressing very well and we are all keeping very busy. Under-floor heating and many, many cables have been installed, and the planetarium dome has been set in place. You can follow the #SupernovaProgress on our social media channels.
We are very excited about the launch of the Data2Dome project which you can read about in this Newsletter. We are delighted to have collaborated with the International Planetarium Society, Evans & Sutherland and many others to launch a free service which brings the latest developments in astronomy to planetariums around the globe. This project fits perfectly with the ESO Supernova values and our goal of making the ESO Supernova the first open source planetarium in the world. At the same time it is a wonderful way for us to share materials widely with the community.
We are also very happy to be supporting another education initiative for high school students in one of our Member States. The summer AstroCamp 2017, organised by the Centre for Astrophysics of the University of Porto (CAUP), is a two week long programme for school students in their final years of school. There is still some time left to apply!
We would like to take a moment and thank our individual donors! Our members’ and supporters’ contributions are helping us develop educational material. If you haven’t donated to our centre yet, you can change that now. You can donate through our website here.
Thank you for your continued support and interest!
Tania Johnston
