ESO — Reaching New Heights in Astronomy
ESO Education Newsletter
9 February 2023

Dear educators and others interested in the educational programme of ESO Supernova!

We hope you have had a good start into 2023 and wish you all the best for this year.

We are pleased that ESO Supernova's education programme is continuing to be so popular. In January already more than 600 pupils visited us and 120 school and kindergarten groups had already registered for a visit before end of July. Since we have only limited resources, unfortunately all slots for workshops until end of July are already filled. However, bookings of planetarium shows and guided tours are still possible. Please use the booking request on our website.

I would like to draw your attention to two important dates/announcements in this newsletter:

In order to strengthen the collaboration with the Forscherstation Heidelberg in the area of early childhood education, we are looking for an Education Specialist to start at the earliest possible date. As an experienced teacher or educator with a university degree (or comparable) preferably in elementary and childhood education or primary education (essential) with focus on natural sciences (desirable), you will be responsible for coordinating the project at ESO Supernova. If you are interested.in working in the field of early childhood education paired with science and cutting-edge technology in a stimulating international environment, you will find additional information on our website or you can apply here.

ESO is again taking part in this year’s Girls' Day - this time with lots of exciting activities at ESO on site in Garching near Munich. Our Girls’ Day is aimed at girls from the 8th grade upwards. Anyone who would like to take part on Thursday, 27 April from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm should register via the Girls' Day website . Places for this event are limited. The activities will be in German.

We would be delighted if you would come along to ESO Supernova with your kindergarten group or school class. The educational programme is still free of charge.

Wolfgang Vieser (Education Coordinator)
