ESO — Reaching New Heights in Astronomy
ESO Education Newsletter
1 April 2021

Dear educators and others interested in the educational programme of ESO Supernova!

Thank you for subscribing to the Education Newsletter, with which we would like to keep you informed about news from the educational sector of ESO Supernova (updates on the booking of the EDU programme, teacher & educator trainings, special activities, etc.).

Unfortunately, the ESO Supernova remains closed for the time being, as the current development of the Corona pandemic does not allow for stable forecasts. Additionally, our EDU programme includes hands-on workshops and working in small teams, so that it is not possible to maintain the mandatory minimum distance. We will inform you via the ESO Supernova homepage and the newsletter as soon as the situation changes.

However, even if you can't visit us on site, we offer interesting content virtually that you can use in the classroom, to prepare lessons, or that you can inform your colleagues or students about. The content of our huge astronomical exhibition "The Living Universe", for example, is accessible and downloadable via our website. We also produced some short videos on specific topics on our YouTube channel. We encourage you to subscribe to our YouTube channel to be notified whenever we add new videos.

ESO is again participating in this year's Girls' Day – this time with a virtual program. For girls in 8th grade or higher we'll offer introductory talks as well as virtual workshops on astronomy and a look into the engineering laboratories and behind the scenes of ESO. This year's virtual programme will be accessible also for participants for whom a journey to Garching near Munich would have been too long. Those interested can register via the Girls' Day website.

Many thanks for your continued support. We hope very much that we can welcome you again soon in the ESO Supernova.

Wolfgang Vieser (Education Coordinator)
