ESO — Reaching New Heights in Astronomy
ESO Supernova Public Newsletter
17 November 2025

Dear Visitors and Supporters,

With winter coming up, the nights get longer and give us a wonderful opportunity to see the stars even more. Can’t see through the persistent fog? Then come visit us, when we explore the brilliant winter skies on 5 December at 18:30 and discover what will be visible during the cold season. In addition, we will be open longer until 20:00 with another evening show at 17:00.

While Kosmisches Kino is already hibernating in December, we offer two special shows instead. On Thursday 11 December we first take you on a journey through Mayan archaeoastronomy, followed by an interactive science show on how to explore even the invisible parts of the Universe, with the exhibition being open again until 20:00. Find out more about these evening events in our press release.

Take note of our winter closure, starting on 22 December and lasting until 17 January. You can already find our programme for the first half of 2026 online. Read all about our 2026 programme here.

And whether you can’t get enough of the beautiful sights in the planetarium, want to see the wonders of the Universe at home or you’re looking for an astronomical Christmas present, get the new ESO Calendar for 2026 in our shop or online.

We’re warmly looking forward to welcoming you in the ESO Supernova.

Head of ESO Supernova
