ESO — Reaching New Heights in Astronomy
ESO Supernova Public Newsletter
5 December 2024

Dear visitors and supporters,

2024 has been a great year for the ESO Supernova! More than 60 000 visitors have enjoyed a range of activities, including the Kosmisches Kino series, musical performances under the dome, the Long Night of Astronomy and of course, our standard planetarium shows. We are already looking forward to 2025 and delighted to open bookings for planetarium shows and the first Kosmisches Kino of the year now. More events will be added and announced in our newsletter over the coming months.

The ESO Supernova will close from 17:00 on Sunday 22 December and reopen on Saturday 4 January 2025. Our programme for the first half of 2025 is online and bookable now.

Please note that for operational reasons, the ESO Supernova will be closed on the last full weekend of each month during 2025. Weekend closures will be well marked on our website and a full list until end of June 2025 can be found in our press release.

Perhaps you’re looking for some gifts to buy your loved ones for Christmas at this time of year. In this case, we’d like to remind you of our online ESO shop, where you can buy the 2025 ESO Calendar, beautiful astronomical images, and merchandise, like this bag made from recycled plastic bottles. Please note that when buying items meant as Christmas gifts in our online shop, we recommend placing your orders by 16 December at the very latest. Our team will be processing online shop orders until 12:00 on Friday 20 December 2024. Any orders placed between 20 December and 6 January 2025 will not be shipped until 7 January 2025 at the earliest. Of course, you can also buy products in the ESO Supernova shop during our standard opening hours, until 17:00 on Sunday 22 December 2024.

Many thanks for all your support throughout 2024. We wish you and your loved ones a very pleasant winter holiday season. We look forward to welcoming you in 2025!
